Fun Secrets in Microsoft Products

Learn about some of the best secrets in Microsoft products from a former and a current Microsoft employee. Surf in Microsoft Edge, insert placeholder text into Word, enable God Mode to access the master control panel, use an undocumented function in Excel to calculate the difference between dates, and play games in Cortana. As a bonus, we’ll also show two fun references, one to Doom in system services and another that includes a photo of Frodo’s house in Lord of the Rings.

  • Additional resources
    • Launch surfing game by typing this into the address bar of Microsoft Edge: edge://surf/
    • Add placeholder text into Word with these functions: =rand() or =lorem() To specific paragraphs and sentences, insert parameters e.g. =rand(3,5)
    • To create god mode folder, create a new folder and enter: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
    • To calculate the difference between dates, use Datedif(START DATE, END DATE, “Y”) function. Enter Y for year, M for month, or D for day.
    • Cortana Games include ‘flip a coin’, ‘roll a dice’, & ‘rock paper scissors’
